Joining the Australian Sewing Guild
Discovering the Australian Sewing Guild
There is always so much to see at the Sydney Craft & Quilt Fair. In 2012 I checked out all of the guild stands to see if I could join a group to expand on my knowledge of one of the many crafts I was interested in. This is where I came across the Australian Sewing Guild (ASG) stand. After talking to the ladies running it I found out there was a group local very close to where I live. I was able to go along and attend a session before joining, so I did!
What an amazing group of women with so much experience and knowledge of dressmaking and general sewing! It took me no time to realise that I needed to join the guild. I worked out with my employer at the time to work overtime to have time off each month to go to the monthly meeting.
Why am I part of the Australian Sewing Guild?
I have learnt so much from them all about the different projects they work on, tools and accessories to use. One of my favourite things now is the invisible zipper foot! There’s always plenty of sewing advice to take in on particular projects I bring in to work on each meetings. The most exciting project was designing and making my wedding dress (I’ll write about another time) not to mention tea, biscuits and conversation.
More great things about joining the ASG is the access to the members section of the website and industry days. You get to meet so many people interested in sewing and share ideas, projects and tips.
Changing jobs to work in the city has made it a challenge to make it to the meetings. With 12 months maternity leave coming up I can’t wait to get involved again.
